Giving YOU(th) a voice in their Education March 1st, 2011 (8:00am-2:30pm) Confederation Conference Hall, 1645 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa ON
The FYBY Summit will take an in-depth look at the education system and how it reflects the needs of youth and their unique generation. Harnessing media (with a focus on video), youth advocates (who have spent the last four months reflecting on this very topic) will use the day to showcase their perspective on topics important to them and stimulate thought-provoking dialogue.
Educators and students are invited to spend a day reflecting on topics of education such as civics and careers, cultural diversity, stress, character development, image and choices. Adopting a mental health theme, this event will challenge all involved to think critically, in ways they have never thought before. The day will be composed of interactive presentations, social media outlets, mixed media creation, and various workshop sessions all facilitated by youth. Upon registration, educators will be given a DVD of all videos and guidelines from the youth presenters about how they can be implemented in the classroom.
Our aim: To cultivate collaboration between educators and students, drawing from the wealth of experience and knowledge that each respectively possess. Our vision: To merge technology with education in an ongoing campaign to improve how we learn and teach.
